Recently, the Lord advised me to let go of my “Plan B.” At first, I wrestled with the idea. After all, isn’t it wise to have a backup plan just in case things don’t work out? What if the bills are past due and the threat of losing everything is knocking at your door, awaiting a response?
But God showed me that my “Plan B” wasn’t really about wisdom—it was about fear, doubt, and a lack of trust in Him. It was also a sign of impatience with His timing.
Understanding the Temptation of Plan B
In moments of delay, desperation often tempts us to take matters into our own hands. We create alternative routes, safety nets, and backup strategies to ease the tension of waiting. But the truth is, these “Plan B’s” can become substitutes for faith. They reveal that, deep down, we aren’t fully trusting God to finish what He started.
As I laid down my backup plan, the old hymn came to mind:
“Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him, How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er; Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, Oh, for grace to trust Him more!”
Letting go was an act of surrender. And in that surrender, I was reminded of these powerful truths from Scripture:
1. God’s Plans Are Always Better
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11
My Plan B could never measure up to God’s perfect Plan A. His design for my life is always good, even when the process feels uncertain.
2. Trust Requires Letting Go
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
Trusting God means leaning fully on Him—not on my own backup solutions. His path may not always look clear, but it is always secure.
3. Patience Is Part of Faith
“But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” – Romans 8:25
Waiting can be uncomfortable, but it is in the waiting that faith is proven. Plan B tries to rush what God is working out in His perfect timing.
4. God Honors Surrender
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” – Psalm 37:5
When I commit everything to Him—without keeping a backup plan in my pocket—He moves on my behalf.
The Freedom of Letting Go
Releasing Plan B was not easy, but it was freeing. It was a declaration that I trust God enough to put all my hope in Him, even in the waiting. So today, I encourage you: Lay down your Plan B and make the Lord your Everything. Trust Him with the delay. Believe that His promises will not fail.
Embracing the Journey
Life is a journey filled with twists and turns. Sometimes, it may feel like we are wandering in the wilderness, unsure of where to go next. But remember, every step you take is part of His divine plan. Each moment of uncertainty is an opportunity for growth.
When we embrace the journey, we learn to appreciate the beauty of the process. It’s in these moments that we discover who we truly are and who God created us to be.
Finding Strength in Scripture
As we navigate through life’s challenges, let’s turn to Scripture for strength and encouragement. The Bible is filled with promises that remind us of God’s faithfulness. When doubt creeps in, let these verses be your anchor:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” – Psalm 23:1
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
Cultivating a Heart of Trust
Building trust takes time. It’s a journey that requires patience and perseverance. Start by acknowledging your fears and doubts. Bring them to God in prayer. Ask Him to help you release your need for control and to trust in His perfect plan.
Consider keeping a journal to document your thoughts and prayers. Reflect on the ways God has been faithful in your life. Celebrate the small victories along the way!
The Power of Community
Don’t underestimate the power of community. Surround yourself with those who uplift and encourage you. Share your struggles and victories with trusted friends. Together, you can support one another in your journeys of faith.
Conclusion: A New Song of Trust
In addition to the old hymnal, allow your heart to behold a new song:
"Way Maker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light in the Darkness. My God, that is who You are."
Embrace the journey ahead with confidence. Trust that God is working all things together for your good. Let go of Plan B and step boldly into the future He has for you. You are not alone—He is with you every step of the way!
